Those bunk bed pics

I realize this is probably a bigger deal than it should be. And I don't mean to make it sound like the boys have been one step up from living in the street. But still--I am so happy they now have beds.

They've gone from this:

To this:

The bunk bed has become Henry's new favorite place to play.
Needless to say, the boys love jumping off of it.

They are taking turns as to who gets to sleep on the top bunk by switching off every week. Max is first this week.

There's still a lot to do with this room, but already it looks and feels much better. It feels a little more organized too, though I still need to pick up some bed sheets. When they were sleeping on futons, there was no need for sheets. The boys just wrapped their blankets around like sleeping bags.

After I'm done with painting the hall (yep, my new painting project!), I will be attacking the boys room. They decided they want an "Angry Birds" room, so I'm going to probably paint with red and yellow and put decals of Angry Bird all over the walls. Grandma will be mortified. :-)  (She doesn't like Angry Birds or the fact that they're angry.)

The long list of "to do's" remains long and I have to exercise a lot of patience on what we have to wait with. But for now, I'm just glad that the boys are finally sleeping in beds. :-)

That camera flash sure lights up a room, wow.

  1. Things look like they are shaping up nicely and the boys look delighted! Your plan for their room sounds fun and it is always nice to be able to decorate "their" room the way they want it. All your new paint in the living-room makes it look so bright and clean and I am envious of your patio area. Sounds like it will be a nice place for the kids to play and you to sit and watch them. When we moved into our house years ago, we had to do a lot of tree trimming and small tree removal to make our backyard usable also. The older couple that we bought the house from apparently loved trees and never considered how big the little trees they planted would become. We have removed 15 trees from our average size city lot and there still are 10 huge pine trees, 1 big birch and 1 big crab apple tree left. We have trimmed the branches up as high as we can and keep trimming them back somewhat every year. But those trees make a lovely canopy over the back yard that keeps it cool in the summer and makes us feel like we are in the woods even in the middle of town. I love them! Once you get your branches trimmed back so you have some air circulation and things can dry out, you will probably enjoy all your trees and shade. Love hearing about all your progress. :)

  2. I like that railing on the top bunk because it looks like it would really prevent the child from falling off the bed.

  3. Everyone except for Henry, that is! He has already fallen out twice when he's climbed up without our knowing. He reaches way out to touch the ceiling fan and then he falls over. Crazy kid!

  4. There's no predicting what children will do.
