Honeymoon period

Max is in what is called "the honeymoon period", meaning that his pancreas is still working enough to produce some insulin to near normal numbers. I am getting this information off of a website, our doctors, the diabetes center, ect. I really have no idea if his pancreas is making enough insulin for near-normal numbers but this is what the honeymoon period means. Most people have one, after being diagnosed with diabetes, but not everyone does.

I'm not sure if Max is truly in the honeymoon period or not. It's been tough getting his numbers down to his target range. If he is, I don't think it will be lasting long because it hasn't seemed like much of a honeymoon.

At the same time, it could be worse. His numbers may have been high but now they are in the normal range, with the help of insulin. Sometimes at night, I don't need to give him any insulin, and am hesitant to give him some anyway, in case it dips down too much during the night.

If this is what the honeymoon is like, then I'm not sure I want to see what happens afterwards.

I am off of Facebook and all social media (well, except for blogging) because I need to be. I am taking a walk with God during this time when He and only He, knows what to do for me. I have continued to struggle with this, and according to everyone who has been through this, will probably continue to struggle with this for weeks, if not months, although everyone is different.

It is a relief to know that the struggle is normal. And human. And even ok. It is just part of the adjustment to a different life we never thought we would have.

No honeymoon period for me.
